“Throughout my 30-year career in the hair industry, I have always been fascinated with the science beyond the salon and the myriad of reasons behind hair loss, thinning hair, and scalp conditions.

During my time in the industry, I have witnessed many of my clients’ go through the shock of losing their hair, and I know from my own individual experience that it can be both frightening and isolating, often leading to damaging impacts on mental health and well-being. 

With a post-graduate degree Education and years of training the next generation of hair care professionals under my belt, it’s given me the drive to provide education and support to men and women of all ages suffering from hair loss.

In addition to anatomy and physiology, trichology training also requires the study and understanding of the genetic, hormonal, and organic chemistry implications of hair loss, as well as the science behind how nutrition, diet, and lifestyle can support healthy hair growth and strength, allowing your hair to reach its optimum health.

I now run a boutique trichology clinic from my private home clinic in a beautiful South Leicestershire village, offering in-depth tailored consultations and expert treatment plans to prevent and control hair loss and thinning.

A trichologist bridges the gap between the hairdressing industry and the medical profession, helping clients understand the possible causes of their hair concerns and supporting them on their journey to healthier hair and scalp health. A Trichologist studies the science of hair loss and scalp conditions. The main difference between a hair stylist and a trichologist is that a stylist focuses on the appearance of the hair, whereas a trichologist focuses on the health of the hair and scalp and growth.
No, you don’t need a diagnosis before booking a consultation. In fact, many clients come to see me before they have spoken to their GP or received a formal diagnosis. They may simply be noticing increased hair shedding, thinning, scalp irritation, or changes in their hair that they are concerned about.

As a trichologist, I can assess your hair and scalp, discuss possible contributing factors, and advise on the most appropriate next steps. While I cannot diagnose medical conditions or prescribe medication, I can work alongside your GP, dermatologist, or other healthcare professionals where appropriate to help you get the answers and support you need.
In many cases, yes. Before carrying out any treatment, I will always need to complete a consultation and assessment to ensure the treatment is appropriate for you and your individual hair or scalp concerns.
 
If you are travelling a distance or would like treatment on the same day, please let me know when booking. I can often arrange a bespoke consultation that allows sufficient time for both your assessment and treatment appointment, where appropriate.

Unfortunately, yes, in some cases it can be too late to restore lost hair.
 
Certain conditions, particularly some forms of scarring alopecia, can permanently damage the hair follicles. Once a follicle has been destroyed and replaced with scar tissue, it is usually not possible to regrow hair in that area. This is why early assessment and treatment are so important. In cases where regrowth is not possible, I can also advise on cosmetic solutions and recommend reputable suppliers of wigs, hairpieces, and hair systems to help camouflage hair loss and restore confidence.
 
With male and female pattern hair loss, there may also come a point where hair loss is too advanced for non-surgical treatments to achieve meaningful regrowth. In these cases, the focus may be on maintaining any remaining hair, improving scalp health, or discussing whether a hair transplant would be a suitable option.
 
The good news is that even when hair cannot be fully restored, there are often treatment options available to slow further loss, improve the condition of existing hair, and help you understand the best route forward.

It is often said that losing between 100 and 150 hairs per day is considered normal. However, in reality, what’s most important is noticing what is normal for you.
 
If you start seeing more hair than usual in the shower, on your pillow, in your hairbrush, or around the house, it’s worth investigating, even if you haven’t counted the hairs. A noticeable change in shedding is often the first sign that something within the body may have changed.
 
Hair is not an essential tissue, so when the body is under stress or lacking important nutrients, it will often prioritise vital organs and functions over hair growth. As a result, the hair growth cycle can be disrupted, leading to increased shedding or thinning.
 
There can be many underlying causes, including nutritional deficiencies, hormonal changes, illness, medication, stress, or other health concerns. Excessive shedding is often your body’s way of telling us that something needs further investigation

As a trichologist, I  carry out a detailed consultation and assessment to help identify any contributing factors. This may include reviewing your medical history, diet, lifestyle, and where appropriate, recommending blood tests to assess levels such as ferritin (iron stores), vitamin D, vitamin B12, folate, thyroid function, and other markers that may affect hair growth.
In most cases postpartum hair loss gets better over time.
