What is Trichology?
Trichology is branch of dematology...
Trichology is the branch of dermatology that focuses specifically on the study of hair and scalp conditions. It is a specialised field that deals with the scientific understanding of hair growth, hair loss, and scalp disorders. Trichologists are experts who diagnose and treat conditions related to the hair and scalp, such as hair loss, alopecia, dandruff, scalp infections, and various other hair and scalp disorders.
Trichology combines knowledge from various disciplines, including dermatology, endocrinology, genetics, and nutrition, to provide comprehensive care for individuals experiencing hair and scalp problems. Trichologists often work closely with dermatologists and medical professionals to develop personalised treatment plans for their patients.
Helen Wragg is a certified Trichologist with level 4 ITEC certificate in Trichology and is a member of the ART association.
Who would go to see a trichologist?
If you are experiencing any hair or scalp problems like:
- Excess shedding
- Patchy hair loss
- Hair loss through menopause
- Widening parting
- Male pattern hair loss
- Dry, flaky scalp
- Sore, tender, itchy scalp
- Any unusual changes
A trichologist might be a good place to start if you’re struggling to manage your symptoms at home. A trichologist should be able to direct and help you with underlying conditions that are causing the hair loss or scalp problem.
If you are suffering from female/ male pattern hair loss, if diagnosed early, can halt or reverse the loss you are suffering.
Some of these conditions if left a will lead to irreversible hair loss, so the earlier you have a diagnosis the better prognosis.
